Good evening felinity assembled....Daddy Kiril here.
I have a story to share.
The next few days celebrate the birthday of the youngest Opinionated Pussycat, Friday the Bearded Lady, a date we estimated, with the help of our vet, to be August 14th, 2015.
Next month we will celebrate her Gotcha Day, the day I found her, Sept. 4, though I didn't officially adopt her until the 18th.
For those unfamiliar with the events surrounding my finding her and her first few weeks in our home, we tell the story over 4 posts, full of photos and a few short videos.
I was walking down Beechnut, at Wilcrest, here in Houston, when a noise in some bushes got my attention.
I stuck what I found in a bag, then my shirt pocket, as I headed to my vet on the bus.
The little one was too young to have memories of her parents, or if she had any siblings, when I asked her later, so having unanswered questions about her past was something we helped her adjust to.
At least we assumed those questions would go unanswered...
This week began with a surprise and by the end of yesterday some answers were revealed.
With this post I will begin to tell you what was learned.
NOTE: As longtime readers know I am known to have language skills on a par with those of the fictional Dr. Doolittle. The story I will be sharing includes photo re-enactments created yesterday with the help and permission of those involved in the events described and are true to the best of my knowledge and ability to confirm....
Arthur Storey Park is a large piece of land located off Bellaire Blvd and Beltway 8.
It has a huge pond, walking/jogging trails and picnic tables and Brays Bayou passes through it on its way to connect with Buffalo Bayou as that stream heads into the Houston Ship Channel.
It is a fine place for humans to hang out in and wild animals of various types call it home, comfortably co-existing with each other as nature intended, accepting the humans as well.
Even the occasional cat has found a home and food within its confines....this is the story of one such feline.
She came to the park, sad, sick and alone on Halloween night 2015...a nameless Tuxedo lady cat, of uncertain age, who had seen better days and who carried a burden she found very hard to bear.
She would be nursed by the one who found her, a creature one would think would keep his distance...but stranger things have happened and a friendship was born.
By Christmas she was in better health, but by the end of February her condition took a turn and she accepted she might not have long for this world.
It took a long time, but she gradually told her story to her friend and she made a request of him after she realized her time might be short.
He was not sure he could successfully fulfill his mission before she passed from this world, but promised to try his best and, before setting out, asked other creatures of the park to watch out for the feline as she continued to decline.
On August 4th he returned to the park, his mission a success and was resting before bringing his news to his friend when he found out that rest was not in the cards.
He sat by her side for 2 days, telling her of his findings and comforting her as she digested the news and asked him to do one more thing for her.
Long before dawn on World Cat Day, August 8th, Guy Ko set off and by the end of the day completed his last mission.
