Happy Sunday, felinity assembled!
Friday the Bearded Lady, here...
Elvira & Sneakers tell me I am now "officially" an adult, even though I still have 5 months until I am a year old.
It has all to do with my operation this past week and how I behaved during and after.
Okay, if they say so, hee, hee!
Anyway, I want to thank Emancipet for putting up with me and for doing the deed in a skillful way.
Here's how it all went down...
Daddy Kiril got up at 4am, Tuesday, got me in the carrier, and we headed out to catch the bus.
We arrived outside the Third Ward Assistance Center, at 3611 Ennis, 40 min. early only to find a few dogs and their humans had got there ahead of us....and one fellow feline and its human.
Yup, I had to settle for 2nd cat in line, hee, hee!
Cats and small dogs were taken in the small van to the clinic.
I don't remember much about my stay and nothing about the operation...
I DO remember an orange tabby named Simba who was in a cage below mine. We fought off boredom by playing whack-a-paw.
The nice lady from the van told daddy that I was a good girl and that was good enough for him.
Anyway, when they tossed us back in the van for the evening trip back to Ennis for pickup I was high on pain meds and a bit cranky as I began to come to grips with what I had just had done to me meant to me physically and emotionally...
The result was, well, look at the photo and see for yourself, hee, hee!
So, after Miss Stephanie cleaned up my carrier and gave daddy the paperwork and a cone, we headed home.
I have been a good, but rambunctious, girl, as I recover.
Daddy kept me in the bathroom over night so my leaping around was restricted to the toilet seat and sink.
His attempts to put the cone on me failed as I thought it was a game and wiggled away so he ga ve up and left it up to Ceiling Cat to watch over me while he slept and while he was at work all day, Thursday and Friday (he stayed home to watch over me on Wednesday).
He called Emancipet for advice and sent them emailed images of my surgery area and they appeared satisfied.
He ended up returning the cone and getting his $10 back to put on his bus card.
I've licked at the area a few times but was smart enough to do so gently and so nothing has gone wrong.
With Elvira and Sneakers to keep watch over me while daddy was at work I had little choice but to be a good girl, so I spent yesterday and today preparing this blog post.
While they offer opportunities, via their mobile units, to get fixed, vaccinated, microchipped and licensed for free, like what happened to me, there is more to what they do....
It is a low-cost spay/neuter and healthy pet walk-in and mobile clinic with it's HQ in Austin and locations in Houston, Pflugerville, and Killeen.
It is a non-profit whose mission, since 1999, has been to offer affordable and accessible services to all pet owners, especially those who can't afford the often high costs of a regular vet.
Over the years they have performed 225,000 spay/neuter surgeries.
In addition to by-appointment spay and neuter, they also offer 6 of the standard vaccinations we all know and love, FeLV/FIV and Heartworm testing, Microchipping and pet ID tagging, Deworming, Toenail Trimming and Anal Gland Expressing and a choice of 5 different Flea and Heartworm treatments.
Representatives provide seminars, speaking engagement and consulting services, and training of various types and the website has an online pharmacy, a small store and online spay/neuter online scheduling.
They are on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Their coverage area encompasses 7 counties in the Central Texas area and Harris County.
They have a very cool Media Page on their website that shares links to 19 stories about them, including one by a blog in Austin; It's a great way to learn more about them.
Check out their website and occasional blog, to learn about all they offer and where to find clinics and services and free events.
I'm so glad you had your spay done, Friday - and this sounds like a really awesome organization!

Sorry that I am so late, I was busy spending as much time as I could with Spooky before he passed. I am glad you are healing well. That sounds like a wonderful group that did your surgery. Sorry your Dad had to get up so early.
