The Amazing Acro-Cats spent the last 2 weeks in Houston, at the Frenetic Theatre...and Daddy Kiril helped out on their first day and night as well as last Thursday evening and all afternoon and evening on Saturday; 20+ hours, total.
Good evening, felinity assembled, Elvira Mistress of Felinity, here, with a sequel to my original post that shares scenes from those last 2 days.
In addition to the chores he had done the first time around he had chicken feeder added to the list, as well as stamping the paws of attendees and checking those paws as they entered the theatre.
He also had 2 tasks added to his on stage repertoire!
He was tasked with waving a giant cardboard Oz the Cat to help promote his twitter account and was in charge of opening the carrier doors for 2 of the cats, deemed petable during the after show meet and greet, so they could go to their stations.
Sadly we have no pictures as they would have been too blurry if he used his cell phone camera.
However, if someone out there has video of Daddy Kiril waving the giant Oz around, or the moment he accidentally let a certain chime playing feline get too close to the treat cup and the hilarity that ensued, we'd love to share them in an update, hee, hee!
Today is Groundhog Day, the one day of the year a certain critter comes out to predict the weather...
The Acro-Cats have a Groundhog who actually does more than smile for the camera and look for his shadow...and he does this task several days a month for 10 months!
Daddy Kiril had the honor of not just posing for a photo with Miss Samantha, but posing with the star of the show...Tuna!
A local cat furniture maker brought the Acro-Cats some cool furniture and a local rescue effort successfully helped several cats find their forever homes through their tables at several Houston shows and Daddy took some photos!
Fandango Cat Furniture, of Houston, TX, says its mission is "to provide veterinarian approved products for cats and dogs built with all wood construction and quality hardware in a smoke free workshop".
Cat Tree Steve McCartney's website has pages of items for sale, for cats, from cabins and couches to a variety of fancy trees, as well as 4 varieties of doggie steps.
The comment page gives you an idea of what satisfied customers have to say and there is a link to his Facebook page as well.
Volunteers from The Friends of League City Animal Shelter set up tables and cages during the Houston shows and successfully helped several of their charges find their forever homes!
The group is an
"all volunteer foster based organization. All of our adoptable animals are housed and cared for in volunteer’s homes. We depend on donations and adoption fees to continue our compassionate mission. We strive to show people the quality of animals available from an animal shelter, encourage adoption rather than buying, promote spay/neuter an find our foster animals permanent loving homes. All of this is in addition to raising the necessary funds to care for the animals and attracting donations of food, medications and supplies."
They are both a PETCO and a PETSMART Adoption Partner.
Their website is full of info and resources, even a news page that highlights issues past and recent that got local media coverage.
They have an articles archive but, sadly, the most recent articles published are from 2014.
Not only that, but the posted updates only are as recent as May of last year. Their Twitter was last active in 2014.
Adoptable animals can be found via links to 2 Petfinder pages, one for the city shelter and one for the Friends, and they DO have an active Facebook page.
Forget the outdated updates and go to the petfinder links for adoptable animals...If unsure if the listings are current contact the shelter, or the FLCAS, with questions.
Susie, the cat in the photo, was adopted by a nice family with kids, on Saturday and seemed quite happy at this turn of events according to daddy.
We have added links to both organizations to our growing resource page.
How fun that you got to volunteer with the Acro-Cats and spend so much time with them! Lucky you!

Great recap. Your Dad sure got to do a lot as a volunteer. Sounds like a great time. If they ever come to Massachusetts, I will have to volunteer.
