Good afternoon felinity assembled, Sneakers the Texian Tuxedo here, at last ready to weigh in on the biggest story of the 2nd half of our year, so far...
Life has been a combination of the serious and the silly, around here, for 2 weeks, now...
Ever since Daddy Kiril rescued a little kitten on Friday, Sept. 4th ( just follow the links for the story so far ).
Once daddy let her out for us to touch and interact with Elvira assigned me the task of most frequent contact for the first few days.
It was a job I was more than ready to undertake and I soon found myself closely watching her every move as she explored her new surroundings, sniffing her up and down, chatting with her and playing with her (she has taken quite eagerly to her wrasslin' lessons, hee, hee!) and reporting back to Elvira.
Elvira has always been reserved, getting into a playful mood, with me, on her own terms and she was no different with the newbie.
But she slowly came around, showing a keen interest in my reports and expressing approval to daddy, outside the little one's hearing.
Her sense of humor eventually showed up, as I expected it would at some point, and the moment was a keeper, hee, hee!
The little one made herself at home, climbing into the boxes by the window and, finally, up in the tower and on the window ledge for her first looks outside.
She is energetic, curious and talkative.
Of, course, if this was going to be her Forever Home, daddy's ability to handle the extra family member was important...
As was the acceptance of Elvira Mistress of Felinity, senior kitty of our house.
Daddy said there was a reason Ceiling Cat led him to her and he trusted that judgement.
On Tortie/Tuxedo Tuesday, this past week...Elvira gave her approval...and she joined daddy and I in deciding on her name...something daddy had already been considering and which I thought was a brilliant choice.
Sept. 18th, 2015
Last night was the big ceremony and it took some effort to get her to stay still so I could make her presentable....much to the amusement of daddy and Elvira.
Finally...the time had arrived...and I took her up on the bed....
I know, not the most dignified position for me to get in for such an important event...but it kept her attention long enough for the ceremony to be successfully completed....you can stop laughing now, um, hee, hee!
It was right that this task was done to begin the weekend of the 3rd anniversary of Daddy and Elvira's (and Nikita... may he be watching with approval from Rainbow Bridge) arrival in Texas and Houston.
The task fell to me, as the Texian Tuxedo, and I made it a solemn experience to better impress this occasion on her young mind for all time.
Once this ceremony was completed, the little one suitably attentive and impressed, eyes wide as she listened and swore to not forget her name, I settled down to tell her what I called a "nap time story"...the story of why daddy happened to be walking by when she needed him most and the story behind her name.
Then Daddy Kiril returned her to the bathroom haven for the rest of the night.
It had been an eventful evening and I and Elvira were pooped!
Her stomach is all white, she has white whiskers and she wears a white necklace as well as 2 pairs of socks and one pair of shoes....
but it is her distinctive chin whiskers that give her her nickname...
She was rescued on a Feline Friday...
and, in recognition of human and canine law enforcement officers and rescue dogs, for whom this particular day was a day for Americans to show their support, in honor of a recently assassinated Houston sheriff's deputy...
and in honor of Detective Joe Friday of the old TV drama Dragnet...
daddy named this newest girl in his life "Friday"...
Before we sent her off to bed I had her sit still and quietly (not an easy task!) watch 2 short videos...
Joe Friday, What it means to be a Police Officer
What is a Policeman by Paul Harvey
She's just a baby now but, in time, she will be able to better appreciate these stories and why her name is very special.
UPDATE - 10am Sept. 20, 2015
Daddy hasn't stopped crying since he saw what wonderful Ann, of Zoolatry, sent us in a morning e-mail, he opened a half hour ago....
Elvira has her hands full providing tissue (Daddy has to leave for work in an hour!)...
and the subject of all this fuss is clueless, happily eating breakfast in her safe room....
I swear...never a dull moment around here...hee, hee!
Thank you, dear Ann, for the beautiful image, from all of us!
Sneakers the Texian Tuxedo
Well, if you have to have a name, Friday will do. Elvira, Sneakers and Friday - all unusual names. Wear them well.

We're DELIGHTED to officially welcome the newest member of your family into our circle of friends and family at Friendship FRIDAY Kiril - a meme which, I'm sure, she will one day assume is named in her honor! :-)
(that is the day we will know she has made the move from kitten to full fledged cat!)
Congrats - I am so happy for you! :-)

What a little beauty Friday is!! And Daddy Kiril seems to enhance her gorgeousness with his photography skills. How marvelous!
My very first kitty was also named Friday. He was all black (not a tuxie) and we got him on a Friday afternoon when my kids were 2 and 6. No wonder they love pets in their lives, huh?
Lots of purrrrrrsssss and hugs for all in your household!

Thank you, everyone, for the warm welcome to my new girl, Friday. Miss Sneakers spent some time, after I got home last night and let her out, explaining to her that a lot of people were very happy for her and her new name and Forever Home...
How much she understood is up for debate but she smiled a lot (Personally, I would, too, if I was let out of a room I was stuck in for 10 hours a day and could play with my new housemates a while, hee, hee!).

Are you Daddy Kiril's 13th cat, Friday? Hee-hee! Welcome! You've found a good home, girl.
Posted by: Amidala | October 10, 2015 at 12:32 PM
LOL!
No, she's not.
Daddy thinks that, including her, he's had 5 directly in his life, and 2 or 3 others around when he and his sisters were growing up into the 80's...the earliest he remembers was a leash trained Siamese his maternal Granma lived with in the 60's.
He also visited a lot with the dozen or so cats an uncle and aunt shared a home with, from the 80's thru the early 2000's, until they all moved to Virginia.
