Founded in 2010, the Women in the Pet Industry Network (WIPIN) is a pet professionals networking group that offers "personal growth, sharing of expertise, and business connections". Serving professionals in all segments of the pet industry, as well as all types of pets, it is one of a kind.
As Daddy Kiril reported, in July, a conference, with awards, was scheduled for this month.
Well, that conference was recently held and awards given out in several categories.
While our friend Yvonne DiVita didn't win for Rising Star, Lorien Clemens, Director of Marketing for Pet Hub, Inc., was selected as Pet Industry Woman of the Year and Amber Kirsten-Smitamber, co-founder of Furlocity, was chosen as 2014 Rising Sar Winner, among other winners.
Concatulations to everyone!
Yvonne has a great blog post, on her Scratchings and Sniffings blog, about "secrets I heard" and how some humans overcame doubts about their place and their pets place in pet blogging, this ever evolving corner of the blogosphere to attend this conference, meet new people and learn new things.
"A key point of the conference was to bring the women of the pet industry together to meet each other. As we sat around tables over breakfast, we shared stories and thoughts and hopes and dreams. As we furiously wrote notes during sessions, we marveled at what we knew and what we didn't and how exciting it was to be in an atmosphere of learning, there in Portland, OR."
Daddy Kiril left a comment, in response to some of the thoughts expressed by human attendees...
"RE: "I worry that people will discover I am not worthy," one woman admitted.
You ARE worthy. You may not have many readers, few resources, not many connections, not as many skills, but you are a writer and you have no doubt had plenty of people compliment you, people who, a few years ago you never knew and never dreamed would notice your work.
RE: "I wish I knew more about blogging," another woman shrugged.
So the hell do I and I've done it since 2002! Never stop learning and improving upon what you DO know.
The most important thing is your writing. Content makes the blog."
