Good morning felinity assembled, Nikita here and last week, Daddy Kiril stopped by the historic South Texas College of Law, in downtown Houston, to see an art exhibit that will be on display through the end of this month before the art pieces "will be moved to high-end retail stores, hotels, car
dealerships, museums, restaurants, and law offices in Houston,
Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Wichita Falls, and Amarillo" to
generate excitement for the November celebrity-hosted live auction of
the art.
Proceeds from the sponsorships and the live auction will support the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN) and South Texas College of Law Animal Law Clinic (STCL).
Paws for a Purpose is a Texas statewide charitable public art event consisting of 60 beautiful works of art on fiberglass sculptures of life-size dogs and cats of different sizes, shapes and poses, along with two mini-cows and a few other interesting, non-animal sculptures.
There are 2 rooms, on the 9th floor and daddy had the rooms all to himself. He found the sculptures awesome and fascinating and after Elvira and I saw the online images we enthusiastically agree.
The many cat ones are cool and amazing!
He chatted with the Director
of Marketing & Communication services who escorted him, answered
questions and took our card. He also chatted with a person in their bookstore
who will pass my card along to the animal law dept professor.
43 of the top artists in Texas were hand selected to participate in this event and the sculptures are heavier than the black cat sculpture daddy bought at a cafe a few months ago.
11 of those artists are from Houston!
The 2 organizations benefiting from this event are ones we and daddy want to learn more about especially the legislative network.
Texas Humane Legislation Network, since 1976, has been the leading grassroots legislative organization in Texas with a successful track record of passing state wide laws for the humane treatment of animals, including companion animals.
The 90 year old South Texas College of Law opened the doors to a new Animal Law Clinic, the first of its kind in Texas, in the spring of 2013.The purpose is to train human law students interested in careers in animal law.
"On the public side, law students work with governmental lawyers engaged in both the civil and criminal aspects of animal law. On the private side, law students provide research and other assistance to civil practitioners involved with a variety of animal-related issues, such as animal ownership, rescue and shelter legislation, use of therapy animals, and dangerous dog claims."
Elvira and I find this very interesting and a side of practicing law that needs more humans practicing it.
We look forward to learning more about both organizations and will be adding links to our resource pages.
To learn all about Paws for a Purpose, read news and press reports on the event, learn how to bid on the sculptures and how to buy a ticket to the November auction (It would be cool to have daddy report on the auction but, for now, he won't be able to attend), visit their website.
To see all of the sculptures, if you, or your human, are unable to see them in person, go here.
