He's gonna be mad at me in the morning, but so be it.
Dear, dear, Nikita, I was so honored by what you wrote the other day, but I am so not ready to be wearing any old mantle no matter what you say.
Your strange behavior since daddy returned from Blog Paws has him, and me, worried. I know that you have lost at least 7 lbs. the last 3 years, not putting any back no matter the food or the meds. None of the regular blood tests, over the years, have clearly defined any issues, and that has always confused daddy. Even you can't explain your moods and behavior but have been your usual self otherwise.
In the morning, and throughout the day, you do what you always have done to let daddy know it’s time for breakfast and dinner, or you want lunch, too, it's just that you do it more frequent during the day, and then barely eat anything, before going off for a nap, snooze, or some blogging.
This has daddy and I puzzled and concerned. He has tried giving you other foods, even Fancy Feast, for cryin' out loud! They would work for a while. Now you are ignoring your special Science Diet A/D Critical Care prescription food!
Your last blood work, in Jan., didn't indicate hyperthyroidism, or any other serious issue yet your last weight check a couple months ago had you at 10 1/2 lbs. Today daddy weighed himself, then him & you together, and then I did the math.
8 lbs.????
Dude, you are an active senior, able to leap onto tables with a single bound, give me what for if I annoy you, and insistently make it clear you are hungry in all your creative, annoying to daddy ways, then you ignore your food, preferring a nap?
To our friends and fans in the cat blogging community and beyond, daddy is taking Nikita in for a weight check and an exam and blood work in the morning. It's all he can afford to do for now. A phone chat with a tech at the vet let him know they had 3 other food options that we can try, even human baby food, if you can believe it!
We ask for your purrs and purrayers.
**** TUESDAY UPDATE****
Nurse Elvira Reports on Nikita's Vet Visit
****END UPDATE****
---------
Our
contribution, 2 days early.
I am sending lots of purrs Nikita's way - it is so frustrating when the vets don't have any answers.

Sending Nikita many rumbly purrs. We hope the vets can come up with something to help.
In the past our ape learned with some cats who came before that a cat can display symptoms associated with hyperthyroidism everywhere except in the crucial blood test results. The vets said this was a known phenomenenenoemom but they could never risk giving anti Hyper T drugs before the bloods showed the T4 level that needed it. It is very frustrating!
Please eat up Nikita!

Oh my goodness, we are all sending our best purrs and prayers your way.

If Nikita won't eat, baby food can get sucked up in the dosing syringe and gently squirted into the mouth. Because it tastes good, most cats don't object too much even if they aren't interested in eating on their own. There are 80 calories in a jar. The may not be an option if vomiting is going on, but if no vomiting, then you might want to give it a try. You can also mix some Nutrical in, if there is no objection to the taste.
Feel better Nikita! Eat!

Has the vet done any X-rays to make sure there isn't a swallowing or blockage problem?
Poor Miss Elvira, I know you and your Daddy Kiril are worried to pieces. I wish you dear non-human friends, who are so articulate in writing, wouldn't be so secretive about your illnesses. It would make things a lot easier if you could bring yourselves to explain things instead of making us guess! But mysteries like this are part of what makes different animals like cats and people living together such a wonderful challenge.
Give Mr. Nikita and your Daddy some purrs from Miss Katya and me.

Purrrrrsss to Nikita. We know what it is like to have a kittie who just "isn't quite right" with no way to find out what is wrong.

Marian, & Katya, x-rays have not been tried as there is no blockage, and previous blood test results have not given a reason for doing any.
Thanks for the well wishes!
