Houston (FNN) — Ikea says it has withdrawn 17,000 portions of moose lasagna from its home furnishings stores in the United States after traces of cat meat were found in a batch tested in San Antonio, TX.
Ikea spokeswoman April Fulum said the product had only been on sale for a month when it was yanked off the shelves on March 5th.
The company didn’t announce the withdrawal publicly until Feline News Network correspondent Kiril Kundurazieff, who had heard rumors from tipsters, started asking questions.
Fulum said the company found out Monday that a follow-up test in Austin confirmed the lasagna contained 1.6 percent cat. She said: “We have more information now. That’s why we choose to inform now.”
Ikea has previously recalled meatballs and other meat products sold in its cafeterias and frozen foods sections, in stores in Europe, after tests showed they also contained traces of cat meat.

Long time readers may remember that I covered, in extensive detail, the issue of the eating of cats, by humans, around the world, in February 2010 and, as part of that expose, shared an awesome, thought provoking, response by the British Cat known as Whicky Wuddler.
While my Ikea story, above (Daddy loves Ikea! He bought his bookshelves there, and has even ate in the cafe!), is a parody of a breaking story, posted this morning on The Blaze, about pork in moose lasagna, in European stores, the subject of cats as food is a serious one and I am taking this opportunity to remind everyone of my old report.
