Good morning felinity assembled. For those coming in late you can catch up by starting here: Houston Cat Club Charity Cat Show (Series Intro).
On the evening of this, the final show day, cats were packing up their humans and heading for home.
Daddy walked around, observing the cats all packed up in their crates waiting for someplace to go.
Not just a place to go, but a place to "go", if you get my drift. Some humans can take far too long to pack their stuff and the stuff of their cats, it seems.
The Houston Cat Club has been in existence since the 1920's and this was their 60th successful show. Champions strutted their stuff and bowed their heads in solemn gratitude for the ultimate recognition, and runners-up went away determined to do better next time.
The Cat Fanciers' Association has been in existence since 1906, after a break-up within another, similar, organization (who got their fur out of joint and why, or did someone cough up one too many hairballs, Daddy doesn't know), and held their first show that same year.
The organization eventually became the "largest registry of pedigreed cats" in the world and this is its continuing mission:
- Promoting the welfare of all cats through progressive actions which ranges from legislative advocacy to the support of feline research and providing breeder assistance.
- Maintaining a focus on the quality of its breed standards and the validity of its registration and pedigrees.
- Providing support to its member clubs who serve as Ambassadors to the general public
- Promoting the interests of breeders and exhibitors of pedigreed cats.
Cat breeders, the same as Dog breeders, are not all deserving of the bad reputation they receive due to the actions of the criminally inclined and the CFA is an important champion for them and an important educational resource for those who wish to understand the breeder and show community.
There are over 600 clubs and 400 shows a year, worldwide.
Daddy met several such people with ties to Texas and Houston.
As for the cats waiting to head on out...Daddy couldn't decide if one pair of cats were pulling his leg or not.
You know, a pair of celebrity's fooling around with the paparazzi for their own amusement. :-D

In spite of what some humans think, GOOD breeders are very helpful when it comes to learning more about cat genetics and health. Kitties in general are better off because of the breeders who work closely with vets to learn more about what makes us tick... and tick better!

I've had very good experiences with good cat breeders in the past. Hard to type with a cat in the lap. Do love the pics especially the first one.

I absolutely admire how you can turn a simple act of leaving a cat show into an amusing full-blown blog post. Love the photos! Very clever.
