Good afternoon Felinity Assembled, Nikita here...
Elvira, & I, let Daddy sleep in on Sunday morning, something that made it easier for us to explore the Swag Bag he brought home, and gave each of us plenty of time to read the Show Program, too.
As you will see, over the next few posts, there were some things of great interest to Cats in the Swag, and Elvira was very, very, absorbed in reading the program. :-D
Me? Just reading about all that dancing, and singing, and then Googling the original production of Cats, and Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, pooped this Old Farte out! (I gotta persuade to Daddy to get me that book to read & review!)
Too much fun, for one morning, hee, hee! :-D
Anyway, without further ado, let me turn this post over to Daddy Kiril...
Good Day, friends, felines, and countrypersons!
Boy, what a night! ;-D
CATS for Cats was a benefit Musical for the Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats.
CATS for Cats was a reimagination of the famed musical CATS, complete with a star studded cast from some popular movies and television shows, and the event was held at the historic, magificent, Movie Palace, The Orpheum Theatre, on Broadway, in downtown Los Angeles, Ca.
From the 1920's, to as late as the end of the 1960's, downtown Los Angeles, along Broadway for the most part, and a couple of nearby streets, the Film, & Theatre, World ruled.
Imagine a one block stretch of Broadway, from the corner of 8th street, south to 9th, on a Friday night, alive with car, and foot traffic, as ordinary people, out for a night on the town, watch in excitement, and awe, as the big names in entertainment enter The Tower, The Rialto, and The Orpheum, for a film, or theatrical premiere.
The blaze of lights! The snapping of cameras! The jockeying for position as the press, tried to get a quick interview, or just an even quicker quote, from a star, as they walked the Red Carpet!
Saturday night, before the show, wasn't exactly like any of that, but still exciting, for me at least, none the less... but that is for the next post. :-D
This post is for introducing you to the beneficiary of the proceeds for this event, and to thank my benefactor who made it possible for me to attend.
Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats is an educational facility that provides schooling to a woefully underserved sector of the Los Angeles Unified School District, and is based in South Los Angeles.
It's Head Schoolmarm, Shawn Simons, is the charming, dedicated, director of school.
When she moved into the area she soon discovered there were plenty of Feral Cats around her home, and so she set about to begin her own studies on the socialization of feral kittens.
As her site explains:
"She began helping other colonies in the South LA area get fixed and socialized and adopted out those kittens.
In 2009, the Headmistress applied for and received the non-profit status for Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats.
She continues to dedicate her time and resources to ending the proliferation of homeless kittens, providing socialization services for feral kittens, placing them in life long loving homes and sterilizing truant grown ferals throughout the city of Los Angeles.
The cats from the original colony still live on the grounds of the bungalow: Mama cat, Target, Manilla, Phillip, Jekyll, Moby, Tina, Stubs, Evie, Yogi and Wally."
The school specializes in "taking hissy little babies and turning them into purring little lap cats," and have a successful graduation rate far better than some schools (who shall remain nameless!) in the rest of the city school district. :-D
The teaching staff is all volunteer, spending a minimum of 2 hours a week with their students, making sure they do their homework, and properly learn their lessons.
There are also dedicated Tutors who take some graduates into their homes for a period of extra education.
Truancy Officers provide monthly Trap Neuter Release (TNR) services in the local community, to deal with street toughs, and toughettes, who refuse to attend, or are unsuitable for, school.
You can visit the site to learn how to become in any of these activities, and learn how to adopt graduate, or sponsor a student.
There is a great discussion of what a Truant Student is, and about spaying, neutering, and TNR, & the roles they play in education efforts, and the School Nursing Staff is from the Hancock Park Veterinary Clinic (An extensive, & awesome, website!). :-D
Scholarship contributions, of cash, or supplies, are tax deductable, and there is even a School Store where you can show some School Spirit!
This organization is making a difference, and raising funds to help them continue to do so was the reason for this great event.
I am very thankful to Hartz for sponsoring my attending this event. That they considered me an influential blogger, worthy of their interest, is a great honor to me, and I tried my best to make a good impression, as I represented Meowsings, and Hartz, at this event.
For over 80 years, they have made pet products, and it's all because of a bunch of singing canaries. :-D
Hartz believes its mission to be to "develop and apply new ideas and technologies to give you and your pet the finest quality pet supplies — so your pet will live a healthier, happier, and longer life."
They have a fine collection of Cat products, and I can tell you that Nikita, & Elvira, have always loved chasing the Midnight Crazies. :-D
Hartz is very involved in the community, at a local, and national, level.
They help shelters across the country improve adoption rates, and even was a sponsor for the American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) and PAWS Atlanta event “Trails for Tails” 5K Run/Walk in Atlanta, GA on August 1, 2010.
The Research & Innovation section of their website has a nice selection of informative articles about their various efforts, and you can also read about their Product Safety Commitment, and Safety, and Environmental Pledge.
Hartz has a very good blog that appears to have been online since at least April, and is on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, as well, so you can connect with them, in various Social Networking ways.
And with that, it's time for me to put the finishing touches on my report on the adventure that was my Saturday night on Broadway, in LA. :-D

We loved the photo of Miss Elvira, deep in thought, reading the show program.
She is truly engrossed in the subject.
And we love the suspenders...Those Paws!
Can't wait to read the full report on your Saturday night at the Orpheum.

The story is fantastic, but I'm disappointed that Daddy Kiril took over the writing on this post.
Congratulations on scoring a sponsorship. In exchange for this stellar review, I imagine.
So glad you had a chance to enjoy this show. Great intro.
