Everyone, Human, and Feline, knows of The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, but how many humans know of the the ride, that night, of William Dawes?
And what about Revolutionary Era Felines?
Who pounced on all those mice, and rats, who jumped ship bent on nefarious missions of their own, once the British Military showed up in Boston Harbor?
Cats, that's who! Patriotic, fervently freedom loving Felines! :-D
Have you heard of any stories about that night long ago?
Why have the Human historians ignored this side of the story?
The Midnight Prowl of Those With Claws by Nikita Cat ( With Humble Apologies to Helen F. Moore )
We are Felines, our fur of different shade,
Never of us were heroes made;
Poets have never sung our praise,
Nobody carressed our brows or gave us treats;
And if you ask us the fatal cause,
We answer only, "We were furry, and had claws"
'Tis all very well for Human children to hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere;
But why should we be quite forgot,
Who behaved as boldly and well, Got wot?
Why should we ask? The reason is clear --
We had claws and caused the traitors, Rats andMice, to fear.
When the lights from the old North Church flashed out,
Paul Revere was waiting about,
But we were already on our way.
The shadows of night fell cold and gray
As we chased the Crown Vermin, with never a break or a pause;
For them to hide what was the use, when we attacked with our claws!
History rings with his silvery name;
Closed to us are the portals of fame.
Had he had fur and claws, and we weren't near,
No one had heard of him, we fear.
No one has heard of us because
He was Revere and we were furry, and had claws.

I hope you had a wonderful Independence Day! We spent a lot of time under the bed protecting the dust bunnies from the firework boomies!
