In late August I got an e-mail heads-up, from KC, of The Cat Blogosphere, about the opportunity to review an interesting new book.
She forwarded me the email she got from the Publicist for the book, at Penguin Books, Erin D. Galloway, and I arrainged to get a copy.
The book was Lessons from Stanley: Nine Lives of Everyday Wisdom by Jennifer Freed, and it was scheduled for release, tomorrow, October 5th.
By the time I got the book I also received an e-mail from Rebecca Freed:
Hi there,
To most people, pets are members of the family. Love for a pet has enriched lives, strengthened relationships, and provided unconditional companionship and meaning. A pet can take you for a walk, listen when you need someone to talk to or even teach you a lesson you may have otherwise overlooked.
For nearly 20 enduring years, nationally recognized author and marriage and family relationships therapist Jennifer Freed, PhD learned important life lessons from the amusing antics, light-hearted ponderings and insightful wisdom she observed in her beloved feline companion, Stanley the Cat. In her new book Jennifer “translates” Stanley’s wit and wisdom into human-friendly expressions and whimsical imagery—making Stanley’s wisdom accessible for everyone.
The fact that Jennifer understood the Felinese language already had caught my attention so I spent the month reading the book, in between Naps, and Snoozes, and blogging, and Daddy has also read it.
To get in the mood for reading the book I checked out 4 cute little videos. ;-D
For the Cat who reads this book there is much useful advice!
Just a few of my favorites, and my thoughts about them.
1. Wake up each morning with a song in your heart. Sing out when you first see someone you know.
2. When you want to wake up someone you love in the morning, put your face gently to theirs.
This means that it is perfectly OK to get up close, and personal, and meow your little, hungry, heart out at 5am when, after your late night Snooze, you awaken at the foot of the bed, and see Daddy, or Mommy's head sticking out from under the covers! ;-D
3. Do not let any bad comments, or derision, bother you. Consider negativity as passing gas.
This means that when they get grumpy, and snap at you for #1 & #2...just ignore them, they probably have gas. ;-D
4. Appreciate the people who feed you, provide you shelter, and work for you. Show them how grateful you are with consistent acts of affection.
See # 1 & #2 above.
5. When someone is on the computer too long, help them by distracting them, or walk lightly on their keyboard.
Hey, how the hell else are you gonna be able get YOUR turn so you can get your blog post up in time for the next days Cat Blogosphere Noos?
Sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horn, and remind your Humans that they are not the ONLY Blogger(s) in the family! ;-D
6. ....and you can show them how to be accepting, and mature.
Yes, as I have been learning, the last 3 months, patience IS a virtue. ;-D
7. When you want someone you love to touch you in a very special place, nudge their hand right to the sweet spot.
Me want Belly Rub! Oh, yeah, Oh, yeah, there, no THERE! Yes, THERE! Oh, yes, Oh YES! YES!!!!
Um, sorry, where was I?
Oh, yes....
There's a lot of great stuff for you, and for your Human, to learn from this very short book (Only 117 pages), and the cool cartoon pictures will also keep you both entertained, and amused, as well. ;-D
You can learn more about Stanley, his Human, and the book, on his website.
Be sure to visit the very cool Your Pets Blog section of the site for some wonderful pictures, and stories. ;-D
The author gave a great interview to Cat Channel/Cat Fancy Magazine on Sept. 8th !
If you, and your Human, are interested in getting the book, we would love to have you do so thru my Amazon Link in the sidebar, um, hee, hee! ;-D
