On Sept. 2nd, 2009, the writers of the Blog Urlesque, called for "A Day Without Cats".
More than 50 other websites agreed to go along with this utter nonsense, and so much attention was paid to the notion that such polar opposites of the Mainstream Media as The Wall Street Journal, and MSNBC, had such slow news weeks that they thought it wise to cover the story as being important.
Urlesque is a very popular website, with enough resources that they can make 2 entertaining videos on behalf of their cause, that scours the internet for many of the more odd bits of news, including lots of animal stuff, lots of it involving Cats.
It appears that they like Felines, after a fashion, but all they seem to know about us online are popular, though silly, video, and photo sites.
These sites allow Humans to post critter pics, and put words in the mouths of the animals...words that the animals never even said, or would even be caught dead saying!
They apparently decided to, um, give it a rest, and try to make the rest of the world do the same...for just a day, at least ( An Update post from Sept. 8, 2009 ). ;-D
Well, as you can imagine, Cats, and Cat Lovers, got their hackles up at this, and some put up a defense as best they could.
Derby & Ducky made the Call to Arms,, and KC of The Cat Blogosphere Website, took up the call beside them.
These bloggers, & their sites, especially The Cat Blogosphere Website, have come a long way since then. ;-D
But they, and the Cat Blogging Community, have not forgotten. ;-D
The innernets is ours!!!
It is ours furrst step to world dominashun!
Power to tha Pawses!
Yes, we, as I, Nikita Cat, Professor of the Nikita Institute of Feline Studies, The Most Opinionated Pussycat in America, with talent on loan from The Ceiling Cat, join the battle! ;-D
Tomorrow, Sept. 9, 2010, and furrever after, is hereby declared to be Mo' Cats Day (AKA Mo Cats Day!)!
A day to celebrate all things Cat!
Encourage more Cats to post on their blogs. Encourage those who like Cats, but are not bloggers about Cats, to post, post, post!
We’ll show ‘em.”No Cats”, indeed. ;-D
I'm a Writer, and Poet, my Best Buddy, and Life Long Companion, is a Writer, and Poet.
I'm a Cat. My Daddy Kiril is a Human.
I'm all Male, and 12 1/2 years old (Well, OK, I'm fixed, but I got over it years ago!).
MY MOTTO: You Giva Me No Trouble - I Giva You No Smack!
Daddy, and I've been online since I was a kitten, in 1998, sharing blogs from 2002 to 12/2009, before I opened up shop on my own on New Year's Day, and what IS blogging, if not a form of writing?
Many Humans, when they think about animals online, know only the sites I mentioned earlier.
Many Humans, working in animal related fields, have no idea Cats blog, or are blogged about, in serious, informative, and entertaining ways, and that this has been going on for years.
The ever expanding world of Critter Blogging is finally being noticed, and Cats ain't going anywhere, not even for just one day. ;-D
I have one of the more unique Cat blogs on the internet, and am damn proud of it, and thankful for the small, but growing, audience it attracts.
Mine is not the only blog with poetry (Creative Meowsings of a Poetic, and Storytelling, Pussycat) , photos (Including exposes such as Street Seens: Cats Outdoors, Thru the Daddy Cam, and Seen & Heard: Critters With Cats on the Brain), humor, news, reviews, travel (Strolling: Come Stroll With Me & See the World!) issues, stories of rescues (Our own Miss Elvira, last July), joyous birth, and great loss (RIP Sweet Kitties: A Day of Mourning Like No Other in the Cat Blogosphere) , opinion (Exposes that get even get PETA's annoyed attention - May I Have a Word?: To a Cat there is no finer word, in any language, than this one...), and so much, much, more (Many with very large followings.), but none are done the way I do it, because all of us are different, right down to what we choose to list in our sidebars.
( BLOG PAWS Website & Conventions: News, Education, Networking, & Fun, for Pet Bloggers, and Anipal Times, are 2 great sites, and there are dozens more in my sidebars! )
So, dear reader, the next time you think it a bright idea to have a No Cat Day on the internet consider this...
William Butler Yeats loved Cats.
Christina Rossetti loved Cats.
John Keats loved Cats.
J. R. R. Tolkien loved Cats.
Christopher Smart loved Cats.
Marianne Moore loved Cats.
Oscar Wilde loved Cats.
Ernest Hemingway loved Cats.
Mark Twain loved Cats.
Presidents of the United States have loved Cats.
And many famous people, in all walks of life, all around the world, love Cats. (Many, many Purrs to Monica Wood, writer of The Pocket Muse, and THE POCKET MUSE 2: Endless Inspiration for Writers, for the list of names! She's a Cat Person , & Cats often come up in these wonderful books! - On her Writing Tips Website: UNIVERSAL WRITERS' TIP: GET A CAT. )
Now, pardon me, it's late, and time for me to go take a nap.
See you tomorrow evening! ;-D
( NOTE: If ya have any of the Mo' Cats Badges in your sidebar, feel free to add a link to this post in, or under it, so your readers can find links to all they need to know to learn what all the ruckus is about! ;-D )
****SPECIAL NEWS UPDATE - 9/9/2010 - 5PM PST****
Urlesque says: Let there be Cats!
POWER TO THE PAWPULACE, & PUSSYDOM ASSEMBLED !!! ;-D
Last night, after posting this story, I sent the following e-mail, with link, to Urlesque:
"Dear Folks:
There are Mo' Cats on The Internet than Dreamed of in Your Philosophy, Urlesque! ;-D
You had your fun, in 2009, now we Cats get serious, and fight back...the ones that ain't napping, and snoozing, or indulging in the 'Nip, or using the litter box, or any number of other activities too numerous to mention. ;-D
Sincerely yours,
Nikita Cat

This afternoon, at 230pm PST, after a brief recap of their deed of last year, the post, titled "Felines on the Web Say: Today is Mo' Cats Day!", written by Annemarie Dooling...gets to the heart of the matter, with a link to this post:
"Now, the cats are coming back -- for good.
Nikita Cat, a strong-willed kitty blogger, has called for 9.09.10 to be Mo Cats Day!
Click here to read Nikita Cat's coverage on September 9, 2010, Mo Cats Day, including a list of humans who would back this day up.
And to you, Nikita Cat and all your followers, we say: Let there be cats!"
Daddy came home, and awoke me with this wonderful news!
Once I stopped prancing around the room in amazed celebration (Elvira thought I looked rather silly.), I wrote another e-mail to clear up one very important point, which I hope they will correct:
Nikita Cat says Thanks, but, please, I don't deserve all the credit...
Dear Urlesque:
Daddy came home, and just awoke me from an afternoon nap, with the news of your very kind post, show of support, and compliment to me.
I Thank you for all of that, with purrs, and head bumps, but wanted to make clear that the 3 Bloggers mentioned in my post were the ones who sent out the original calls to arms, and my post was done as a full throated, opinionated, back-up, and support.
Sincerely yours
Nikita Cat
Now how cool is this?
Don't ever be afraid to speak up, and let your voice be heard by the wider internet community, or organizations, & officials, of any type...You just might be surprised by the response you get in return (Remember my PETA, & Grunion Gazette, Exposes?) ;-D

Well done Nikita for bringing the origins to everycats attention.
When Derby told us about the stupid idea that Urlesque had, we posted on that day and have kept the Mo' Cats graphic in our sidebar ever since.
Posted by: Eric and Flynn | September 09, 2010 at 06:43 AM
Great background info on the origins of Mo Cats Day!
How sad that the people at Urlesque only favoured their own creative expression, and felt it necessary to disparage that of cat lovers and cats.

In your face, Urlesque!!!
You tell 'em, Nikita!
We cats are well on our way to world domination.

Nikita you did good!
Such great research.

PS. I, Derby, get to take credit for this.
Ducky hadn't arrived to live with me a year ago.
KC, at the Cat Blogosphere, helped spread the word.
