Ladies, and Gentlemen, Boys, and Girls, both Feline, and Human, of the Cat Blogging Community...
I invite you to warmly welcome, with open paw, and arms...
A Kitten in a Hat. ;-D
Miss Elvira... so named in honor of the beautiful, talented, animal loving, Mistress of the Dark (Cassandra Peterson has used Elvira's celebrity status to, among other things, raise money and awareness for animal welfare), whom Dadddy has been a fan of since she took the TV Horror Host Scene by storm decades ago. ;-D
2 am Sunday morning: The story I have to share may make you laugh, hiss, and cry, and the photos will amuse, astonish, and warm the cockles of even the most cold-blooded heart.
It promises to be a very long day around here, so make yourself comfy, and let's get started (While I Blog, and check in with the party from time to time, Daddy is keeping an eye on the Little Lady, who, after a week, suddenly discovered her tail, and spent part of yesterday trying to catch it!)...
Oh, and yes, Daddy, & I are still bachelors, but with a woman in the house some things are bound to change in our lifestyle.
For instance, he will have make sure the toilet seat is not just down, but the cover is down, too, and I, well, any grooming of the nether regions will have to be done more, um, discreetly. ;-D
So let's begin, at the beginning...
------------------------------- What's your name? Where do you come from? How did you get here? How old are you? You'd think I'd ask it if it was a Boy, or Girl, but I didn't, that first day. Some Investigative Journalist I am, huh? ;-D Anyway, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and into Wednesday night, I asked questions of the trembling voice beyond the bathroom door, from the safety of my bed, and tower perches, and continued to piece together her story... The flier came down by Monday night, and Apartment Management has had no inquiries all week long. On Tuesday morning Daddy took the Kitten to the Vet for a check up, shots, flea treatment, and to make plans for a HooHawectomy, next month. Late Tuesday night a message was left on our phone...the person described the Kitten, with little emotion, or concern, explaining that "she only comes out at night. We have her go out at night, and she knows her way home. Just leave her by the laundry room, by the stairs, and she will find her way home." What the ****? 430pm Saturday afternoon, is not night time, and which laundry, by which stairs? Daddy did not call the Human (And we use that term very loosely!) back, waiting to see if there would be a 2nd call. and we are still waiting. Ceiling Cat! How I wish I still had my front claws! Over the first night, and day, I could hear the little one purring, and asking questions to the empty room... Where am I? WHO am I? Why am I here? Who was that other, older, Cat, I briefly saw? Who is the nice Human, and why is he helping me? Why couldn't I stay under the bed? I liked it under there! Her memory is a real fuzzy, she does not even remember if she even HAD a name, or who her people were, and where they are, or how long she had been under their dubious care.... All she remembers is hiding in some bushes, next to a building, a long time on Saturday afternoon, and late into the night, avoiding contact with all the unfamiliar Humans she saw walking about. When, or even how, she made it up those 14 steps to our second floor apartment, and how long she had been sitting by the door, is mostly a mystery (Seen and Heard 14: Archie, Edith, and a Little Scared Tortie) that she can't answer. All she remembers is being frightened, tired, and hungry, and wanting to relieve herself, but being too afraid to do so. After what seemed like hours, but was maybe only 30 minutes, she said that she heard footsteps on the stairwell, and saw a man, Daddy, emerge out of the darkness, and into the brightness of the light by the door. Instinctively her tail went straight up, she rubbed against the railing, and began to purr, as if her very life depended on it! When Daddy picked her up, and began to talk to her, she said, all her fear seemingly disappeared, replaced by a calm, but very wary, feeling, that THIS Human was safe, and meant her no harm. She wanted to answer his questions, but her voice stuck in her throat, startled as she was that he could understand her, and she him, and all she could do was purr, and purr, and purr some more. She said that she was grateful for the food, and water, but especially for the litter box, as she had been holding it all in for hours! As you can see there's a window, and a tower, my stroller, a bed, table, and 2 chairs, plus the caves, and 3 bookshelves around the room, and toys including some mousies, and even crinkle balls, around somewhere. Oh, and there are plenty of Guy, and Gal, Litter Boxes to go around in the bathroom area. ;-D Elvira is sleeping in her safe haven, until later in the morning, when KC, a fellow Tortie as you know, will pay her a visit, and help her prepare for her entrance into the party. She's only 5 months old, and is still getting her bearings, and has a lot of learning, and growing, ahead of her, so be kind, and gentle (Don't share your 'Nip with her!) so as not to spook her. ;-D I'll end on 2 notes: We were not sure how things would turn out for several days, yet Daddy went ahead with the vet visit despite the uncertainty. What we learned about the claimant confirmed for us that what we were doing was in her best interests, and if Daddy ever runs into this poor excuse for a Cat Lover he will say just this: "In your best interest, and that of the Kitten, please turn around, and walk away, troubling us no more. If you do not, I promise you it will be the worst decision you could make, as I will report what you told me on the phone to management and, more importantly, Animal Contol, have a nice day." The bills are stacking up and there will be a super great auction LATER, among other things we have long done to so far little effect (Ads), and will do, to help us begin to raise money. With 2 Cats to care for now, over the next few months Daddy plans to begin to do something he's long thought of doing, except I've always been such a healthy dude, and that is set aside a regular amount in a General Pussy Fund (GPF) for rainy days. But that's something to think about another day...THIS day belongs to Elvira, and should be free of the cares of the world. Many of my posts today will be picture filled reports, mostly in Daddy's words, of the series of Meet & Greets between Elvira, and I, since Thursday morning, events that have been interesting, and unpredictable, adventures, for all 3 of us. ;-D This little Tortie has Tortitude to spare, in the humble view of this Opinionated Pussycat. ;-D Daddy knows me even better than I know myself, sometimes...afterall, we have lived together for 12 happy years, and so I stand by his, um, Play by Play, of the last 3 days. ;-D Thank you everyone for the support, and encouragement, in the comments, this week, and a special thanks to those who have held our hands, and paws, behind the scenes through this very trying time. It means a lot to us! ;-D Bachelors No More! A Society Debut for a Charming Young Lady #2 Our little Domestic Drama, so far...Intruder Alert! Daddy's Found a Kitten! Or Vis a Versa, I don't know!
This Kitten was frightened, hungry, flea infested, had never been to a Vet, turned out to be 5 months old, weighing only 5lbs, and had no microchip.
She is far too young to have developed any concept of "The Ceiling Cat", but she said that she stared at the Cat Humor signs in our window, and something compelled her to remain by the steps near our door, and rest her weary body.
Based on what we later learned, over the next few days, I truly believe that it did.Throught out the rest of the day Daddy will help host the party, and I will leave the computer from time to time to pop in on things.
We just want to formally welcome Miz Elvira.
We are happy she found her way to you, and hope both of you have a peaceful life...
We know there will be an adjustment period, but be gentle with her.
She's young, and she will need to learn the ropes.

pee ess: We's gotted a bit of a mystery.
In the aftermath of mine somewhat wild 4th purrthday party back in June, two of tha East Coast Voles were reepurrted missing.
We's also missing two voles -- coincidence???
I's not so sure. You can't nefur tell wif Voles.
We suspeks they might haf hitched a ride up north wif ours good furriends, Samantha and Clementine.
We could be looking fur anuffur whole noo colony of voles.
We'd better warn Nikita and Dad Kiril.
Unless, of course, they like voles like we do.

Love the stories with the happy endings.
I know some doggie friends and if you would like I could see if they could come over and take care of the meanie human that was first around.
What a terrible person.
You are so lucky to have picked your family.
I did that too.
Mine never saw it coming.
Isn't being an inside furever kittie the best?!
I can not believe but you must have been starving when you were first trying to find a nicer place to live.
Take care of your daddie and will see you later.

It sounds like Elvira came to the right place!
I'm not even sure why the first human had her around in the first place.
Clearly Elvira knew she deserved better.
And she also knew where to find it!

Hello Ms Elvira, you have really landed firmly on all four paws in your new home. I think Nikita will be a perfect big bro' and you will soon learn all the ways of the house.
Some people don't deserve the company of animals, people like your previous people for instance. You are a lucky little ladycat to have landed a home with a pair of good chaps like Kiril and Nikita.
