A letter came in the mail, yesterday, that is a very cool follow-up to the story I blogged about in March.
The team had all its balls, and equipment to play with them, stolen, and were in danger of not being able to play.
The Orange County community responded, and I was one of those who contributed to this effort.
As I wrote at the time:
I told Daddy that I wanted to do something to show my support, and so Daddy went to a Big 5 Store, which is a popular place where the Humans go to buy their balls, and all the things they need to play with them, and found out that each ball costs almost $4.
I know it isn't much, but I asked Daddy to write a check for $12 when he got his paycheck today, in the name of this blog, and take it to the school.
I am doing this, and reporting the story, because this is a story that not only affects critters whose young Humans play these games at all levels of school, community leagues, and even what they call "Traveling Team" leagues, but all of us as well.
You can read more, and see a video, here: Human Teens Can't Play Fetch & Catch! Their Balls are Stolen!!
The official letter was signed by Denise Jay, the school principal, Dan Strobehn, the Varsity Baseball Coach, and 12 of the players, and was accompanied by a team photo of the players who signed this version of the letter. ;-D
You know what makes this really cool, and special, to me?
The letter (Daddy's Camera is on its last legs!), dated April 26th, is not just addressed to Daddy, whose name was on the check, but to ME, as the one who wrote a story about their troubles, and in whose name the donation was made. ;-D
"Dear Mr. Kiril Kundurazieff and Nikita Cat,
Bolsa Grande High School and Baseball Boosters would like to thank you for your generous donation in our time of need.
You have been instrumental in turning what could have been a very devastating situation into one of hope and comfort for our baseball players. They have been given an opportunity to experience community generosity and kindness, which they will hopefully carry with them for their lifetime, and continue to pay forward to others in need.
Again, our deepest thanks and gratitude for your generosity."
Bolsa Grande High School, of Garden Grove, is "A California Distinguished School, and winner of a Title 1 Academic Achievement Award."
What a fantastic, and uplifting post, Nikita.
It's a beautiful thing when a community rallies to "take care of it's own."
Thank you for giving of yourselves, and for sharing! :)
