It was an opportunity for them to reach an audience they might not otherwise reach.
It was a chance to promote a post or 2, each week, that they thought would be of interest to others, and to pitch them using more than 140 characters or just a short sentence barely long enough to get a point across.
Today, Monday, September 14, 2015, marks the 600th weekly edition of the Carnival, uninterrupted, since Spring 2004.
I am Elvira Mistress of Felinity, lead writer puss on this blog and, it is with great honor and very humble pride and joy...as well as a little sadness for those not here to savor this moment...that I bring you this event.
I wish to thank all those who have hosted Carnival of The Cats over the years...your huckstering, many of them with artistic contributions as well, kept us going.
I wish to thank all those cats and their cat loving humans who wrote and submitted posts over the years...your contributions were the most important part of what we did as it opened a window onto a corner of the internet that few still know exists or fully understand even if they do.
Your work provides a record of how our community grew and continues to evolve.
Special thanks, above all, must go to our founder Laurence Simon, of Houston, TX... host of the 100 Word Stories blog and podcast, who still shares his cats via several social media venues.
When he began the CoTC there were no doubt more than a few, even after the Time Magazine piece, who thought he was full of crap, hee, hee! Is Full of Crap, the blog, is no more, but its legacy stretches far and wide.
You ARE the King of the Cat Blogging World, my friend.
Special thanks, as well, to our friend Susan Strong, Miss Mog, and her cats, past and present, from Meowza to Ritzi for their invaluable contributions to the cat blogging community as hosts and caretakers of the Carnival.
I and Daddy Kiril are honored by your friendship and encouragement.
Most importantly I wish to thank my inspirations, both as a feline and as a writer...
My mentor Mr. Nikita (1998-2013) and my beloved human, Daddy Kiril.
I learned so much from both of them that has made me who I am as the sassiest lady cat in Houston.
Let's get this show on the road!
We begin with sad news from 15 and Meowing...
Beautiful Lucy made the journey to Rainbow Bridge, losing a battle with cancer.
Please stop by and pass along purrs and purrayers....
The Circle of Life may end with death...but it begins with our coming into existence and beginning our designated journey and at our home, at the same time Lucy's life was ending, Daddy Kiril help assure, to the surprise of Sneakers & I, was assuring that a new life would have a chance to make a name for herself...
3. While this was going on Sneakers Turned Two! (She's 24 Human Yrs. Old!)

17 -19. Over at I Have 3 Cats...Dear John...Cammie did not come to breakfast? Wassup with that? Hee, hee! Also, The human is trying to instruct Tucker in the use of the steps at the end of the bed...for a very important reason. On a related note...a vet visit.
and last but far, far, from least....
Susan's buddy, marvelous Meowza, in his prime
22. In case you missed it Susan Strong, of Mind of Mog and our fellow CoTC caretaker, shares her memories in Carnival of the Cats #599.
The gang at Marian Allen's Blog send in 3 stories!
1. Pastimes, Passions and Paraphernalia introduces readers to the 2 family cats...
2. From the humor blog called Lame Adventures...
"That cat knew some heavy shit was going on and she wanted nothing to do with it, but she likes to eat and sleep, so she surfaced quickly."
3. Over at Empire for a Blueberry...Tom goes to the vet with great support!
4. Create With Joy and her cats host a Wordless Wednesday with always interesting essay topics and photos of the resident cats - " Share your cat photos and stories with us each week (Submissions accepted all week!)"
One reason for spreading the word is to see if there is anyone who might be able to help us return links to the CoTC Archives (our email is in the sidebar)...
I have been busily performing a much needed updating of the links in the CoTC archives, finding many once considered lost, even as I found many early links no longer working.
It's possible some blogs may have moved, who knows.
The new archive has a home on this blog, in our Pages List....
I still have to add the last 200 links, from the old list, but will be done by the end of Friday.
So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night, dear friends, this is the end of the Carnival of the Cats...
It was a great run but Nikita knew, before he passed in 2013, that it was running on fumes and had been for a while, and even my attempt, this year, to revamp it, was, realistically, just a great way to help us reach this milestone and go out in style...
Remember the CoTC fondly, and honor its legacy by inviting those who wonder what all the fuss is about cats and cat blogging, writing, photos and videos, books and conventions, to explore our archives.
Oh, and rest assured.....The Opinionated Pussycat, itself, IS NOT ENDING....we have hopes and dreams and plans for resurrecting things not done in a while and doing new things...so stop by once in a while and explore a spell.
