I want to discuss something with you before turning things over to Daddy Kiril:
Is eating cat food that is au naturel something you or your human ever considered as a good choice for you?
Do you get too much grain and not enough veggies in your diet?
For us kitties a healthy diet, full of balanced nutrition is the key to good health. While nutrient excess can lead to certain health conditions, nutrient deficiency can also lead to certain health conditions.
Creating a balance is what’s required, not just natural for the sake of natural. Why? Natural ingredients do not guarantee optimum nutrition, precisely balanced nutrients do.
Hill’s Ideal Balance is 100% balanced nutrition guaranteed or your money back and Daddy Kiril will get into some details in this post (Introduction):
When we humans consider feeding our cats natural foods, it’s smart to first look at the ingredients in a food, remembering that it’s what is IN the ingredients that matters.
Why? Those ingredients will either be the Yugo or Rolls Royce for transporting nutrients to our feline friends at meal time.
Here’s what I mean. Ingredients are chicken, vegetables, fruits, etc. Nutrients are what the body absorbs from them. With the increase in the quality of ingredients, the ability of your Mighty Mouser to absorb and use the nutrients from them increases as well. Now, while no single ingredient makes the munchies better or worse, too much of one nutrient or too little of another can screw with the health of your kitty.
A cat food is a sum of its parts.
The goal of a pet food manufacturer should be to make a cat food with quality ingredients that deliver nutrients like protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals balanced in the right proportions for the best and most, nutrition for Fritz and Francine.
When it comes to cat food, the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), a body that sets voluntary standards for the pet food industry, defines “natural” as “a feed or ingredient derived solely from plant, animal or mined sources.” This means a “natural” cat food, like Hill’s Ideal Balance, contains no chemically synthesized ingredients (aside from vitamins).
Most interesting about this is the idea that feeding your cat what they’d eat in the wild is better for them. Protein in their diet helps them to get enough essential amino acids. Once those requirements are met, additional protein beyond what Tiger uses for energy will be excreted on the next litter box run.
Simba’s energy requirements can also be equally met by carbohydrates. Carbs instead of protein, when it comes to meeting energy requirements has the benefit of controlling mineral and other nutrient levels for better cat health.
The point is that a diet with a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and vitamins and minerals from a variety of sources is ideal. Are there any natural cat foods out there with the ingredients you want PLUS the nutrients in this right balance?
Well, I’ve given Nikita some occasional variety, and they all made their own claims, but the new Hill’s Ideal Balance line of pet foods has caught my attention. In these foods, I am finding natural ingredients that I believe are good for my cats, with 100% balanced nutrition.
I feel good about recommending this food because Elvira has shown a liking for both flavors of the Ideal Balance Adult Dry and, since Nikita has liked the wet food, I will see how he does.
I also feel good about recommending Ideal Balance because it is a true natural cat food crafted by folks who know what they are doing regarding better feline health.
