The origins of this blog shall felinity assembled teach their young;
And a year shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But the name Meowsings shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of cat writers;
For he, or she, to-day that sheds their tears with us
And celebrates the birth of our new name and header
Shall be our brother and sister; be you ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle your condition;
And critters in the cat blogosphere now-a-napping
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their nine lives cheap whiles any speaks
That mourned and celebrated with us upon this March day.
Sincere apologies to Willie S., Sir Larry, & good ol' Kenny B!
Good morning, felinity assembled, welcome to the 800th post since this blog began on New Year's Day 2010.
I am Mr. Nikita, your host for this momentous occasion. Elvira Mistress of Felinity is around here somewhere, as is Daddy Kiril, who will share his thoughts on his own blog.
Something sure looks might different around here, doesn't?
No, the 'nip tea you might have sipped last night wasn't spiked, hee, hee!
We have been considering a header change for sometime, since a friend of Daddy Kiril's first suggested it to us a few months after we moved to Houston. The notion of a new look at the top of the blog, plus re-thinking the way our sidebars looked, were among those ideas that have been a part of our thinking about our direction as writers.
Elvira and I have been discussing with Daddy the many inspirational books he has been reading for over a year, and been inspired by his friend, Amanda Socci, the Creative Idea Gal, to improve the way we write, and work on how we interact in the world of social media, as much as he has (Daddy has set up a Facebook writer's page, become more active on Twitter, and Pinterest, and joined the Blog Paws Community, ahead of attending the conference in May).
When we decided to change the header we looked to our friend in blogging, Debbie Glovatsky, the mind, along with her cats, behind the award winning GloGirly website (6 time finalist at the 2013 Nose to Nose Pet Blogging and Social Media awards!), someone whose creativity and inventive thinking, has benefited many in the critter blogging community, and elsewhere, before us.

As the reality of the change set in, last week, something dawned on me; Why not go the distance and change the name of the blog, too? Elvira and Daddy scratched their heads, at first, until I pointed out that the change I had in mind would, at last, bring the title of the blog in line with the website URL. All that was needed was the addition of one simple word.
With Daddy having twice become a guest blogger, submitted a speaker proposal to Blog Paws (not accepted), Elvira having her first poetry submission not accepted, and Daddy encouraging us to think about chapbooks and eBooks, we were all learning to move our writing beyond being just that of longtime hobbyists and toward looking at ourselves in a more professional manner.
So, so long Meowsings and so long to the wonderful header created for us by Anne of Zoolatry (May Celing Cat bless you and your kitties, Ann! We can't thank you enough!! Your badge contributions are still an important part of our blogging!) and hello to The Opinionated Pussycat!
We confidently call ourselves the most opinionated felines in America...with talent on loan from Ceiling Cat!
If you list us on your website somewhere, all you need to do is change the name of the blog, not the url!
BTW, there is something very interesting about the new name, a cartoon and literary, reference to a cast of characters with an endearing sense of humor, led by a character who was very sure of himself.
If you know the answer, leave it in the comments. :-D
All those cat related resources we used to have in 2 sidebars? They can now be found in a collection of special pages listed in our single sidebar. Our archives can still be accessed through a link under the header and we may add other things along that row, and will gradually add a new look to the sidebar, with the help of GloGirly.
I imagine many of you are scratching your head and asking "so, what's with the monocle wearing cat with a mustache, you guys?"
For the answer to that I will turn things over to Elvira...
My, oh my, don't we look just pretty as can be?
No, silly, not the kitty in the picture, the new header!
As for the kitty to my left, his sentiments are a politer variation of my own, in response to something someone tweeted a year ago:
"Cats that wear monocles are assholes"
I strongly beg to differ!
Nikita, Daddy and I think that Debbie's choice of a monocle to go along with the other literary aspects of her design was inspired (as for the Mustache...Daddy wears one! Just not so fancy, hee, hee!)
Unknown to her, as a Google search I made revealed, humans who wear monocles, and are writers and other creative sorts, have a distinguished history going back into the 19th century, as do fictional characters:
Poet laureate Alfred Lord Tennyson.
Prominent 19th century Portuguese writer Eça de Queiroz.
Screenwriter, filmmaker Fritz Lang, among others.
The New Yorker magazine guy.
Agatha Christie's Belgian sleuth , Hercule Poirot.
Dorothy Sayers' aristocratic sleuth, Lord Peter Wimsey.
P.G. Wodehouse characters P. Smith and Galahad Threepwood, and Bertie Wooster.
Wallace Stevens's "Le Mononcle de Mon Oncle" is a classic early poem.
Karl Marx wore one, but we won’t mention that knucklehead!
We WILL mention Petey, of the Little Rascals, though, hee, hee!
We are extremely proud to have a monocle as part of our new header!
Debbie also created our business card design, which includes the header on the front side of the card.
The cool thing is that, when Daddy ordered the cards online, at FedEx Office, there were other things he could slap the design on!
He ordered a T-Shirt, along with the cards. :-D
So, there you have it. Please let us know, in the comments, what you think of the various changes, and feel free to spread the word and connect with Daddy Kiril on his various social media sites.
****UPDATE - 830 am 3/26/13****
It was a long day, yesterday, and we forgot to address one more important thing about the design...The huge "O", with the cat in it!
I'll give you hint...We ARE Opinionated, you know. :-D
Sassy lady that I am, I will do the explaining, so stay tuned!

O is for Opinionated! We Take Aim at All Things Cat, Taking No Prisoners by Elvira Mistress of Felinity
****Hat tip to the Amcon Gazette for finding the rich kitty in the fancy clothes, wearing a monocle, in 2009.
In another bit of synchroncatity... Amcon is a 30 year old "eyecare supply center" in St. Louis, Missouri.
