It's time to eat, whether it's the official times of day set by your human, and agreed to by you, or when you suddenly get the munchies, and you are miaowing and rubbing against their ankles...

Believe it or not, there are some human researchers who say "it is a sign of a creature whose obsession with food has driven it to the edge of insanity.

They claimed that cats that show too much eagerness to be fed could be
suffering from the newly-diagnosed condition of “psychogenic abnormal feeding
behaviour. And the attention-seeking behaviour is a symptom called “excessive solicitation of interspecific interactions”."

Say WHAT??? The comments are just as interesting as the posts.

Grumpy Old Kitty Gets Worked Over by Vet

 

Good afternoon felinity assembled!

Daddy took me to the vet for my first real checkup since his eye issues cropped up in November. I had lost weight from 12 to 10 lbs. and was not eating as much as I needed to.

Hey, I don't understand it either, and it's been an issue for over a year or so.
 
A physical check found only a heart murmur, and my arthritis had moved to now include my shoulders (Well, hell, at least I knew THAT!). No teeth issues or other outward signs of problems.

The vet suggested the next thing to try would be blood work and a urinalysis. I agreed with daddy, and so the Doc and 2 assistants put me in a blanket to help manage my, um, co-cooperativeness, and, as I cussed up a storm, they went to work to get samples.

I won't repeat what I said, here, as I don't want to encourage Elvira, or any young'uns in the readership.

Since I was in no mood to, um, perform, I had to come back another day to pee to their satisfaction. The indignity! I swear.

The upshot is, $280 later, they found no signs of diabetes, or liver disease, but my kidney values were mildly elevated showing signs of mild kidney disease. Urine was clear, and my blood pressure was a little high.

The weight loss and loss of protein might be related to inflammatory bowel disease, so to they are returning me to Prednisolone, but twice a day, and 1 Aller G-3, Omega 3 liquicap a day. All this to stimulate my appetite.

The good news is that I ain't dead, yet, and am still a reasonably active old geezer. :-D

Oh, and neither is daddy!

He got some potentially good news related to his situation, as well.

Seen and Heard Special 3: Houston Cat Club Charity Cat Show Contestants

Daddy, like the fictional Dr. Doolittle, understands the words of many critters, and the things he's heard them say, about cats especially, have always been interesting to us. Far too many humans have no clue how often cats come up in conversations among other animals...now Daddy, and Meowsings, set out to reveal what is going on right under their nose.

We will be continuing the ongoing report of the visit by Daddy Kiril to the show, soon but, for now, here is some more of the behind the scenes, and not so behind the scenes, goings on.

Have you ever wondered what a contestant is saying to a judge, if he, or she, gets up the nerve to say anything at all?

From what daddy could tell this cat had serious doubts about its judge.

Some contestants get very depressed, even when awarded a ribbon.

 

VERY depressed.

I think they should be very proud of themselves, and use this as incentive to do better next event.

Feline News Network Special: Us Inspiring? Awww, Shucks....

On January 18, Daddy Kiril learned that he had received the Very Inspiring Blogger award from our friend, Amanda Socci, the Creative Idea Gal.

He was very honored, and thanked her very much, as do we.

He then told Elvira Mistress of Felinity and I that the award was as much ours as his, so have at it, and nominate a few kitties, and their humans.

There have long been a variety of blogger "awards" making the rounds, and I received my first in 2009, and 2nd in 2010, and it is always cool to get one, and to find others to pass them on to.

This award is bestowed upon those bloggers the giver believes inspire through their writing.

All of the various social media awards making the rounds have rules, and some have variations for the same award. We are sticking with the version of the rules for this award that Amanda chose.

1. Pay it forward. Award the Very Inspiring Blogger award to 4-7 fellow bloggers along with a specific reason why you are inspired by their blog.

2. Promote. Thank the blogger who gave you this award and the bloggers who inspire you by linking back to their sites. Bonus if you include specific URLs of special blog posts that inspired you.

Who Says an Old Human Can't Learn New Tricks?

Good evening felinity assembled! Someone young (and sassy!) is here to report something new that someone old plans to do.

There is no denying that the past 2 ½ months have not been easy for us. Daddy Kiril had his job searching interrupted (and a later job prospect turn out not to work out, through no fault of his own) by unexpected eye issues, the more serious of which still needs to be resolved. With the status of his Ca. unemployment still unexplained, he had to make the difficult decision to cash in his IRA.

Seen & Heard: Critters with Cats on the Brain

Attending the cat show he decided to keep his camera ready, pen and clipboard handy, and his ears wide open for what the feline competitors might be saying amongst themselves....This special 3 part series is the result.

Daddy even got to get up close and personal with Walker, a fully, mature Maine Coon of 11 yrs of age and 23 lbs. (He's weighed as much as 25!).  Walker is always on tour, representing CFA Club Shows and as the "Iams Ambassador Cat".

Daddy Kiril At Large: HCC Charity Cat Show 4 - Initial Observations

Using Daddy’s notes I am going to share his experience attending this event.

 

Once Daddy and his friend Laurence Simon got inside they began exploring, aisle by aisle. The event hall was full of contestants and their humans, as well as booths of all sorts of cat themed merchandise and services. Cat lovers from Houston and beyond were exploring the whole venue to their hearts content.

Everywhere they looked they saw cats; big cats, small cats, hefty cats, petite cats, hairy cats, and hairless cats.

My, oh my, was it really last Febraury that the Factor last appeared? 2012 was that sort of year for all of us, and I want to apologize to our fans for not keeping up.

It’s about time to shelve the word ‘hot’ when used by adult cats to refer to the attractiveness of another feline. The use of this word by otherwise intelligent felines annoys me to no end, and I won’t even reach my 3^rd birthday until February!
