Good afternoon, Felinity Assembled!
This is Elvira Mistress of Felinity, your self-appointed (for a day, anyway) Romance Advice Columnist for the human in your life.
If your human is on the look out for a date, or a future life partner, then you may just want to point out all this stuff I'm about to share with you. :-D
Whether warranted or not, deep down, humans who love cats instinctively believe they can trust a fellow cat lover.
Taking that notion a little further, both women and men have lots of preconceived ideas about what their favorite breed of feline says about them to the opposite sex.
Never mind that that last doesn't mean they are actually asking us for advice, or would listen to it if given.
Would your human use a Siamese to get a date with a like-minded human? Do humans use their cats as date bait?
A recent survey about what breeds are attractive to the opposite sex done by Klooff, a mobile application for pet lovers, revealed that if attracting a date is the goal of your human, they can’t go wrong with American Shorthairs, which are popular for both sexes.
The survey results are based on responses from 1,000 cat people & non-cat people between the ages of 18-33.
According to the survey, the top cat breed to attract men is Maine Coon (Nikita? He says, "Was there any doubt?), followed by Manx, Burmese, Turkish Van and Siberian.
For women, the top breed of cat to attract them to men is Tortie, followed by Siamese, Scottish Fold, Persian and American Curl.
For complete findings, have your human visit Klooff and check out the “What’s Hot” section.
In the story I read there are 3 humans mentioned.
Jordy Baintun 25, of Tallmadge, OH., when questioned, said he would never be attracted to a girl who would likes a hairy cat that sheds a lot. It says too much about her personality according to him.
“I would be more attracted to girls with medium hair cats,” he said.
Baintun said he thinks his parents’ Tortie definitely would attract chicks because it is “soooo cute." Plus it's a MALE and you don't see many of those!
“If I was strolling with my parent's cat, it would definitey attract girls,” he said confidently.
Sorry girls, Baintun is currently in a relationship with — you guessed it — a woman with a Maine Coon. :-D
Baintun's girlfriend, Katie, 22, of Akron, says the cat definitely makes the man.
“Cats say something about you — that you are charitable, that you are responsible. Guys like that are nice to be around,” she said.
Katie's roommate, Morgan, 25, who lives with a Manx named Bella, has the right cat to attract men, according to the survey. She said she goes for men who are also pussycats personality-wise.
“There is something sexy about it,” said Morgan, who manages a salon.
Katie said she thinks certain breeds also make men appear more masculine.
Another interesting tidbit from the survey results showed that while men say they are likely to date a woman who lives with a dog, they often enter into the relationship thinking the woman is “easy” and “dumb.” On the flip side, women are 10 times more likely to view a man who owns a dog to be considerably more “slimy” or “sketchy” than a man with a cat.
What do I think of all this? While it's flattering that Torties are thought of so highly, I take the results about dogs with a serious grain of salt.
