Carnival of the Cats is a weekly roundup of Cat-related posts on weblogs, in America, and around the world, who choose to submit a post for inclusion.
For us Cat Bloggers the Carnival is a chance to discover blogs we might never have heard of, on subjects of all kinds!
The Carnival Home Page, with an archive of past Carnivals, the Line-up for 2012 (3 openings to host are still left for the taking!), FAQ'S, and more, is HERE.
Good evening, Felinity Assembled! Elvira Mistress of Felinity, here!
It's the day before the big double birthday, in our house, as Nikita turns 14, and Daddy Kiril turns 52, and Daddy went shopping for some treats for guests we expect. :-D
He went to Pussy and Pooch, in Long Beach, yesterday and, this morning, he presented to Nikita, & I, samples of what he purchased, for our approval.
Attendees are more than welcome to bring their own, to share, as it will be Potluck. :-D
As we get this show on the road, I want to invite you to check out my poem in celebration of the 108th Birthday of Dr. Seuss, and the Seuss Day Challenge over at Zoolatry, and Da Weenies. :-D
(For the curious, here's all ya need to know about that colorful tower!)
1 - 3. We begin on a very sad note, as a Legend in the Cat Blogging Community has gone to Rainbow Bridge....
There have been more than a few Legends in our worldwide Community, to have passed on, but Nardo, the beloved Feline also known as Orlando Wirth, was the companion, and inspiration, of Laurence Simon, The King of Cat Blogging.
The Mighty Stripey Hunter left us last week, and leaves a void that will be hard to replace.
He would have been 16, in May! :-D
This fitting tribute shows that Nardo has at last rejoined several other Felines, loved, and missed.
The Fab 4 are romping at the Bridge, awaiting the day when they will at last be re-united with their Daddy for all eternity.
Nikita, & I, sent our condolenses, and Mr. Simon was kind enough to take time out to reply:
Thank You... his decline was long and slow, and his time wasn't unexpected, but mourned just the same. Plenty of time to say goodbye for us and the two baby panthers, and we did our best to keep him engaged, loved, and valued.
5. As you know we have launched the Occupy Your Litter Box Movement, last October, and are always looking for new members (Only 1 so far!). :-D
6 and 7. Vetstreet has released the results of a major stuy of their records:
After reviewing 12 years worth of records, Vetstreet.com released a list of the top 10 trendiest dog and cat names. In addition to pop culture-inspired picks such as Bentley and Nala, research shows that pet owners are favoring more human-like names, demonstrating the fact that we have come to view pets as indispensable members of the family.
There is also a top 10 LEAST trendy names, hee, hee! :-D
8 and 9. Over at The Cats from Hell...It's an ongoing story from the Annals of the Feline Bureau of Investigation!
Start here: Kozmo – International Man Cat of Mystery!
The adventure continues: The Chirpy Caper - China
(There are at least 2 related chapters, so look for the links!)
This is just so cool!
As readers know Nikita, & I, write poetry, and 100 Word Cat Stories, and we are always interested in other storytellers among Felinity Assembled! :-D
(Nikita takes a shine to something called "Stella & Chewy's" from Pussy & Pooch....)
13 and 14. We get occasional submissions from websites with little, or no, focus on Cats, and from some sites purporting to be focussed on Pets in general, and they attempt to submit their one post about Cats, or remotely, about them, and we ignore them in the spirit in which they were sent. :-D
However, there is the rare instance in which we get something worth sharing, from folks who appear to be offering their entry in a spirit of seriousness, and with the intent of offering something useful, instead of solely fishing for traffic. :-D
(I'm a Sassy Cat, so if that explanation bothers some readers, tough, we get 3000 spambot comments A DAY, here, at Meowsings, treat such things accordingly, and thus are very wary when checking submissions to the highly respected, long running, Carnival of the Cats.)
The folks at the Renter's Insurance website are on Facebook, & Twitter, and have a couple of blogs going, and one of their staffers has a personal blog, where she has shared images of her Cat.
It is for that last reason that I decided, after consultation with Daddy Kiril, & Nikita, to share their submission, a very informative piece called Help Your Pet Feel at Home in an Apartment, or House, by Leonard Baron, a self-described "Pet Owner", teacher, and published author, that DOES touch on issues related to Cats.
As for their resident Cat Lady...Christina, a self-described "professional blogger for online education sites" writes The Humble Nest, her first attempt at a personal blog, now starting its 3rd year of very occasional entries, out of Chicago, and has a new post up that features her Cats. :-D
(...As for me, well, um, hee, hee!)
15 and 16. Over at The Sherwood Bunch a lot has been happening.
Missy Blue Eyes just turned 9 years old on March 1st!
There is an ongoing Name the Baby Challenge for the newest Kitten to join the family! :-D
17. Our final entry is from Nikita! It is about something Daddy Kiril encountered in a cemetery!
Late, but more than welcome, submission!
