According to a report on the Adfreak Blog, on the Adweek website, Petco has updated its iconic logo, and added a word to its equally iconic Tagline.
I learned of this story thanks to a Tweet by Catsparella.
Soooo...I went over to take a look, and felt compelled to toss in my 2 cents in the comments. :-D
It seems, based on the number of times it has been LIKED, so far, I appear to have met with some agreement. :-D
Here is what I wrote:
My Human has been shopping at Petco for years, it's where he gets the litter for myself & my protege, Elvira Mistress of Felinity, among other things from time to time.
I've even visited our local store in my Pet Stroller.
A year ago I was found to have arthritis of my paws & joints, and more recently I've been dealing with a great loss of weight, of unknown cause, which has led to a change in diet to try to regain the weight.
Aside from these issues I'm a happy, active, 13 year old male, and while I may be old in years, I consider myself a Hip, Contemporary, Cat (Online since 1998!).
But, not being "healthy" it appears that Daddy's business would no longer be wanted, and I would not be welcome in the store as a visitor.
The new logo has gone on a diet, which is nice, and the critters look more realistic, which is cool, but the tagline is not something designed to make a Cat like me feel very welcome in their store.
The Official Statement does not address this perception.
Sincerely yours,
Nikita Cat

Wonder what would happen if I wrote a letter to someone at Petco? :-D
****UPDATE 8/18/11 - 230PM: About that letter....****
After some thought, this morning, I napped on it and, this afternoon, I have sent the following letter, by e-mail, to Petco Corporate Communications....
My Human has been shopping at Petco for years, it's where he gets the litter for myself & my protege, & Co-Blogger, Elvira Mistress of Felinity, among other things from time to time.
I've even visited our local store in my Pet Stroller.
In October I was found to have arthritis of my paws & joints, and more recently I've been dealing with a great loss of weight, of unknown cause (To find out the true cause is beyond the financial means of my Human), which has led to a change in diet to try to regain the weight.
Aside from these issues I'm a happy, active, 13 year old male, and while I may be old in years, I consider myself a Hip, Contemporary, Cat (Online since 1998!).
But, not being "healthy" it appears that Daddy's business would no longer be wanted, and I would not be welcome, in a Petco store, as a visitor.
The Official Statement does not address this perception and, instead of appealing to the "broader" pet-loving community, may turn a lot of members of that community off.
I know what type of image you are aiming for, but this is not the right way to go about it.

UPDATE 2: Over at Adfreak, this afternoon...the writer of the comment just after mine doesn't believe that I actually wrote my comment.
A in reply to Nikita Cat -- "I don't know why, but it creeps me out when people write like they are their own pet."
Can you believe that? :-D
I left a reply to him, of course, that attempts to edumicate him regarding the complex world of Critter Blogging. :-D
END UPDATE

I finked this was a joke at furrst, but guess not.

I think you should right a letter to petco.
While I think I know what they are trying to convey they are not doing it right.
I think they are trying to say if you shop here you will keep your pet healthy.

I agree, Karen, we know what they mean, but they did not say it right at all.
I finks they should let Nikita write for them.
