Senior CB Nurse Nikita Cat Reporting!
Jr. Nurse Elvira, and I have held down the fort rather nicely so far, highly disconcerting though those crutches, the splint, and all this hopping, and lunging about by Daddy Kiril, is to us.
We are eating, and drinking, and pooping, and peeing nor, oh wait, this is supposed to be about our treatment of Daddy...sorry, my bad! ;-D
It is very worrying to hear Daddy moan in pain, from time to time, as he struggles to move around, and do things for himself, and us, like changing food, and water bowls, and the litter boxes, but he is able to do things, and that's a good sign.
I admit to being guilty of doing my usual late night paper rattling, can I graze a little, routine, more than usual, then sometimes not eating because Daddy's groaning, and moving about unnerve me.
I feel embarrassed admitting that.
Some help I am, huh? ;-D
Daddy is seeking advice on how best to turn Elvira into a grazer, too, so he can leave dry kibble down for both of us, 24/7, and not have to get up so much, yet still not have to worry about her turning into Miss Super Chubby 2011, and losing her fine Girlish Figure. ;-D
He's already gotten some good advice on the subject that he see if we will go along with, um hee, hee!
We both sleep close to him a lot, on the bed, sometimes both of us at the same time, sort of a Double Team Purrfest. ;-D
Anyway, the surgery is set for 215pm tomorrow, and his Sister Vi is coming early in the morning to take him, and bring him home around 6pm.
Since the Docs don't think that 2 very conscientious Kitty Cats can handle his Post Op Recuperation Watch that lasts 24 hours, by ourselves, this means we will have to put up with near strangers in the house!
I barely know Daddy's 2 Sisters, through personal encounters, even after all these years (The one extended period was the few weeks Daddy went to Va. & DC a few years ago, and trusted Sis Vi to feed, and look after me, & we all know how THAT turned out, um hee, hee!), and Elvira is angry because she doesn't believe the care of her beloved Daddy should be entrusted to people she has never even met, and who have very conflicted opinions about our blogging, what little they know, and understand of it!
I assured her that, as cranky as these 2 Humans can often be toward our Daddy, after years of study, and observation, as best I can, I've concluded that, deep down, they REALLY DO love him as much as we do, and want the best for him.
We will all just have to work together to help Daddy over the next few months as he recovers.
I did a Google for "Ankle Fracture Trimalleolar Closed", and while Daddy found it all interesting, and we did , too, my head hurts from all the medical words, and Elvira kept saying Gesundheit!, & Bless You! every time I spoke one of the stranger words. ;-D
Funny girl. ;-D
It seems the Human ankle has attitude issues.
The inside, and back, parts of the Tibia, and the end of the Fibia are all called malicious, or some such.
No wonder they hurt when daddy so much as just twists one. ;-D
Because the ankle indulges in not just one, but 2 joints, 24/7, a whole bunch of ligaments are called upon to keep everyone stable.
ooookay. ;-D
So Daddy goes and does something like this....
"Tri" means three, you see. Trimalleolar fractures means that all three of those Malicious things went and got themselves broken. This makes everything very unstable & can be associated with a dislocation of the joint like in Daddy's case.
Because this , in order to be fixed, screws, plates, or a combination of both, will be put into place, and protecxted by a cast, to make everyone eventually, hopefully, learn to play nice again.
This could take 2, 3, or more months, of Daddy following directions, and Elvira, and I, and worldwide Felinity Assembled, in absentia, using The Power of the Purr, while his assorted Ankle Buddies hold hands (or whatever), and chant Kumbayas. ;-D
You can learn more by Googling "Ankle Fracture Trimalleolar Closed" as we have from the very interesting personal stories especially.
****DAY OFSURGERY/ AFTER SURGERY UPDATE -- 245pm Staturday****
In the immortal words of a certain movie Mad Scientist....
HE'S ALIVE!!! HE'S ALIVE!!! HE'S ALIVE!!! HA HA, HA HA HA!!!!
Nurse Nikita, here with an update.
Elvira Mistress of Felinity, & I, have survived a long day of worry, and discombobulation.
After some initial hiding, when Sister Vi arrived, we both managed to come out and do a preliminary inspection of the woman.
Friendly face, and voice,, and she seems the playful sort.
We both both got close enough, at different times, for her to reach a hand out toward us, then we ran and hid.
Daddy told us her & her husband, are major Dog People, , and she was once a member of a Daschund Community Online, all of which promises to be interesting, and a plus for her in our evaluation.
After they left Elvira & I managed to work out our Dining Dilemna.
There's enough food for both of us, between the 2 bowls, so let's share the bowls, and try our best not to be Pigs. ;-D
When they arrived home, around 6pm, we initially hid, until Sister VI got Daddy settled into bed.
After a while we came out of hiding to nervously check on Daddy.
Except for the new, pretty, white cast, it looked like Daddy, sounded lliked Daddy, and smelled like Daddy...somewhat, so we remained cautious, but hopeful, that it was Daddy. ;-D
Eventually I came back out, and daringly hopped on the bed for a closer instection, and then I knew it WAS Daddy!
He hugged me tight, and kissed my face, and I just couldn'yt stop purring!
Sister Vi left him in our care at 10pm, and I slept on the foot of the bed all night, while Elvira decided to stay in her hideaway in the closet, pretty much unti 230 this afternoon. ;-D
Most of today, Daddy has stayed in bed, getting up to eat, and use his litter bowl.
I lay on the bed, and a couple of times came up to do one of our favorite snuggles...The Armpit....where I lay there and purr, and paw, and wiggle, as he rubs my face, back, and belly, until I either can't stand the pleasure any more, or fal;l contentedly to sleep.
I slept these times.
At 230, just after Daddy finished lunch, Elvira came out, walked around him, a couple fo times, and concluded I was right...It WAS Daddy, and let him pick her up, for hugging, kissing, and petting.
She licked him, and purred real loud...for her it was loud, hee, hee!...Then she settled in his arms, and lap for about 10 minutes.
Right now she is asleep on the bed, as we await the arrival of Sister Vi, & her husband.
Recovery will be long difficult, and tiring, for all of us, but we are glad to have our Daddy home!
We'd love to hear from anyone with a Human who has lived thru having a lower leg cast, especially if the Human lived alone during the period involved.
Any advice, tips, and encouragement, would be appreciated!
Our e-mail is in the sidebar.
Oh, and don't worry, I WILL be hosting Carnival of the Cats on Sunday evening!
****END UPDATE****
715pm - A Special, Purrsonal, & Heartfelt, Message from Daddy Kiril....
Dear very special friends in The Cat Blogosphere (The CB), and the Cat, and Critter Blogging Community Worldwide, as well, and all my non-blogging friends that I have made in the course of being online since 1998, or known much longer.
As I turned this ordinary photo into something special, and now post it here, I have been in tears the whole damn way.
I didn't expect that reaction.
The love and suppport, purrs and purrayers, advice, and encouragement, that have been sent our way in comments, and e-mails, & even a donation to the Support the Pussycats Fund in the sidebar, since my Boo-Boo on 5/22, have been amazing.
You have all touched me very deeply with your kindness, support, and there will be no way I can ever thank you enough, though I want to try to reply to the comments, and e-mails, at some point.
The Power of the Purr is an awesome force and, in it's first week of being used on my case...it led to the cost of my procedure being $1700 LESS than I was approved for CareCredit ( I was told this good news an hour before I went under the knife.).
Recently I had been doing some research on how Purring helps Humans heal, but now it appears I can be my own subject! ;-D
I have a long struggle ahead of me, of uncertain length, and though I live alone, with only Nikita & Elvira by my side 24/7, I will have some help from my Sisters, as best they can.
Nikita, and Elvira, have been absolute Troopers through it all, and are finding their own ways to help me heal.
Through love, laughter, hugs, petting, and purrs, my days go by just a little bit faster because of them.
Nikita & Elvira have started a worldwide Purr Pile, which they say adds the Power of contributing Felines to their own Powerful Purrs. ;-D
Will my condition prevent me from attending Blog Paws in late August?
I don't think so, but it's too early to be certain.
Will it prevent me from getting a sponsor? Proabably, because, on crutches, I might not be very capable of being a Huckster for anyone but Nikita, Elvira, and myself.
If I get there, it will most likely be out of my own pocket, and possible donations.
That's all I have to say for the moment, except ...
May God, & Ceiling Cat, Bless You, and I love you all from the bottom of my heart!!! ;-D
Daddy Kiril

Oh, we hate the thought of any kitties going through this with their human. since kitties are not big on change and humans don't handle pain well.
But perhaps the positive of this will be that there will be changes in the humans' relationships and you'll get to know his sisters too.
We hope your dad's surgery goes well.
Sending a prayer, purrs and tail wags.

I am glad that the surgery went well and that you are getting help from your sister.
Herman and Emma will be right over to help with the purr pile.
I once crushed my foot while living alone.
I broke all five metatarsals and was in a cast and on crutches for a couple of months.
My advice is: don't be afraid to crawl around. I found that several things, like carrying anything, were much easier to do by crawling than by trying to do it on crutches.

Having had major bone breaking surgery on my foot some years back, I'll impart some painfully learned tricks.
Keep it elevated, doesn't throb in pain so much, and don't let the kitties lick the toes.
I nearly went thru the ceiling when one of my cats did that after the numbness wore off.
Feet take time to heal, a long time.
Hope yours is the exception.
Me and the kitties send our purrs and purrayers.
